John Ray & Sons: 30,000 Gallon Propane Storage and Transfer Facility,Troy, NY
The John Ray & Son’s 30,000 gallon storage facility was installed in early 2008. This challenging project involved installing a bulk propane tank and system in the heart of urban Troy, NY.
Following extensive city planning board meetings and a number of system layout, design, and engineering considerations, a single 30,000 gallon mounded propane storage tank was selected for this project.
To meet the customer’s specific needs and requests, the installation consisted of an underground vessel with openings accessed in the tank bottom for bottom withdrawal and truck loading capabilities, and use of the tank top openings through the tank manway for transport unloading on the upper side of the tank as seen in the attached photos. The tank surface is protected with a mastic coating, cathodic protection through magnesium anode bags, a rectifier system, and backfilled with non abrasive sand. The final surface grade material consists of #8 riprap for erosion control.
John Ray & Sons has the capability to unload one transport and load two (2) separate bobtails at any one given time. All propane is metered through the facility by using LC 3” liquid meters.
